INS 104 PROPERTY AND CASUALTY INSURANCE

In this course students will be introduced to how insurance works and how it has helped society to achieve economic stability, growth of communities and business development by providing a fundamental understanding of property and casualty insurance.  The modules will focus on essential Property and Casualty (P&C) definitions, concepts, the structure of the insurance contract and operational practices. The course will also delve into key areas such as underwriting, claims handling, regulatory compliance, and the role of technology in modern insurance practices.

Expectations and goals 
Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of risk, the role and responsibilities of insurance professionals, regulatory guidelines, the types of policies provided, and the strategies and techniques used in P&C industry to ensure that industry can operate successfully. 
By the end of this course, students will have a solid foundation in property and casualty insurance, equipped with the knowledge and skills to understand policies, assess risks, manage claims, and stay informed about industry trends and regulatory developments.
